Clay Modeling SCULPTURE

Geko Art Studio offers art courses for all ages and levels.

The clay modeling course allows the student to learn one of the traditional artistic techniques par excellence; thanks to its ductility, clay lends itself perfectly to an artistic use, in particular for sculpture. The student will develop the manipulative skills for the creation of a (customizable) artwork made with their own hands.

You can choose between semi-intensive courses of 6 hours per week and intensive courses of 9 hours per week (monthly, quarterly and annual duration).

Possibility to purchase packages of 5 lessons or 10 lessons.

Semi-intensive course

6 hours per week (two three-hour sessions per week)

This course provides you with a solid foundation in sculpture by focusing on the development of primary craft skills. In order to understand the complexity of form in space, the program emphasizes the use of observation and structural knowledge to develop visual judgment and visual accuracy. For a minimum three-month program, the course is divided into sculpture lessons and drawing lessons.

During the sculpture study hours, students will copy a series of objects with a simple shape in clay; the objects are assigned in progressive order of complexity and each has specific objectives that the student must achieve.

Intensive course

9 hours per week (three three-hour sessions per week)

Our program provides a solid foundation in sculpting by focusing on developing primary craft skills. In order to understand the complexity of form in space, the program emphasizes the use of observation and structural knowledge to develop visual judgment and visual accuracy. This type of program is divided into sculpture lessons and drawing lessons. Drawing is considered a fundamental skill for sculptors; when students are able to achieve accurate 2-dimensional rendering, they can apply this knowledge to the more complex task of observing and rendering a sculpture with its multiple viewpoints. Students will then spend three hours for each session drawing using pencil and then charcoal. Students learn to draw on a light background to focus on the line and emphasize the total silhouette. The precision of this outline is crucial to accuracy, as understanding the geometry of the figure by locating and connecting the bony points will help the sculptor find and explain specific shapes in clay. During the sculpture study hours, students will copy a series of objects with a simple shape in clay; the objects are assigned in progressive order of complexity and each has specific objectives that the student must achieve.

More specifically:

– Five (5) SCULPTURE SESSIONS of three (3) hours each includes the study of anatomical details of Michelangelo’s David (to be chosen between nose, eye, ear, mouth) in clay will be the first step to sculpt a portrait.

– Eight (8) SCULPTURE SESSIONS of three (3) hours each where students pass to the copy of a human skull to understand both the bone and muscle structure, practicing through the creation of portraits from the models in casts.

– Eight (8) SCULPTURE SESSIONS of three (3) hours each student sculpt their first portrait by observing a live model.

– Fifteen (15) DRAWING SESSIONS of three (3) hours each through the “THE SIGHT TO SIZE” technique, i.e. in full scale, students will practice drawing in pencil and then move on to charcoal by studying the casts of portraits in plaster and sculptures of a human figure.
